Me Alexandre Giroux

Me Alexandre Giroux is a Canadian lawyer with a somewhat unconventional background.

Co-founder of Giroux O’Connor Immigration Law, Me Giroux primarily practices immigration law. However, his experience in criminal law also allows him to assist clients facing charges under the Canadian Criminal Code. Me Giroux speaks French, English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese, enabling him to offer a broad range of legal services to a diverse clientele.

Me Giroux’s path is somewhat unconventional background:

In 2013, he discovered Mexico during his first international trip. From his first interactions with Mexican locals, he quickly realized that he shared a deep affinity with them, marking the beginning of a profound connection with Latin America.

A few months later, Me Giroux returned to Mexico with a one-way ticket, this time for a two-month immersion to learn Spanish. Upon arrival, he began studying at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Through rigorous discipline, he quickly became fluent in Spanish, which allowed him to fully integrate and form friendships with the locals. Captivated by the country, his stay, originally planned for two months, extended to a full year.

Mr. Giroux then returns to Canada, where he begins the Integrated Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies and Modern Languages at Université Laval in Quebec City. While perfecting his Spanish, he also undertakes the study of Portuguese. He completes his university education with an exchange year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he further strengthens his Portuguese language skills.

After completing this first degree, Me Giroux decided to follow his passion for law, a field that had always captivated him. He enrolled at McGill University’s Faculty of Law in Montreal, where he quickly developed a passion for criminal law, a field to which he decided to fully commit. As a student, Me Giroux was actively involved in the world of criminal law, serving as an intern with judges at the Court of Quebec and assisting professors Me Marie Manikis and Me Alexandre Bien-Aimé (now a judge at the Superior Court of Quebec).

After obtaining a double degree in civil law and common law from McGill University, Me Giroux began his legal career in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he worked at two highly renowned criminal defense firms. He then chose to relocate to Montreal to continue his criminal law practice at a private firm. Both in Vancouver and Montreal, his proficiency in several languages proved to be a significant asset, enabling him to represent clients from various nationalities and linguistic communities.

A significant number of Mr. Giroux’s clients at the time were foreign nationals facing criminal charges. Due to their status, many of them were also experiencing challenges related to their immigration situation in Canada. It was in this context that Mr. Giroux gradually developed an interest in immigration law. Over time, this interest took precedence, and Mr. Giroux decided to devote himself fully to this area of practice.

Mr. Giroux divides his time between Bogotá (Colombia) and Montreal (Canada). That said, he can assist you with your Canadian immigration matters, regardless of your country of residence.
