Ms. Kelly O'Connor


Ms. Kelly O’Connor, at your service to uphold your rights in Canada and internationally.

A partner at Giroux O’Connor Immigration Law, Ms. Kelly O’Connor practices immigration and refugee law.

Prior to doing so, Ms. O’Connor spent 10 years working in human rights, international development, and non-profit organizations in Canada, Europe, and Latin America. Ms. O’Connor is fluent in English, French, and Spanish and has a working knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese. She is delighted to serve clients in their language of choice.

Ms. O’Connor completed a bachelor’s degree in English and French literature at the University of British Columbia. While she was there, she began her career in international development as a co-op student at Global Affairs Canada. She also completed an exchange year at University College Dublin in Ireland. After completing her undergraduate degree, Ms. O’Connor spent a year teaching English in Bogotá, Colombia, where she became fluent in Spanish.

In 2016, Ms. O’Connor returned to Canada to undertake a double degree in civil law and common law from McGill University. While she was a law student, she quickly discovered a passion for immigration, refugee, and international human rights law. In particular, she worked as a legal intern at Just Solutions Legal Clinic in humanitarian immigration law and at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in refugee resettlement in Quito, Ecuador.

Following graduation from McGill, Ms. O’Connor clerked for Associate Chief Justice Jocelyne Gagné at the Federal Court of Canada, notably gaining expertise in Judicial Review of negative decisions in immigration and refugee matters. She was called to the bar in Ontario in 2022.

Before pivoting to practice exclusively immigration and refugee law, Ms. O’Connor spent two years in Bogotá, Colombia as a legal advisor for the International Bureau for Children’s Rights.

Ms. O’Connor has practiced exclusively immigration and refugee law since 2023. She began as an associate at a boutique immigration law firm, where her practice included refugee law, humanitarian immigration, family class and spousal sponsorship, labour-market impact assessments, and all classes of temporary residence.

Ms. O’Connor was delighted to join Giroux O’Connor Immigration Law as a partner in 2025, and is available to help clients with a wide range of immigration needs.

Alongside her practice, Ms. O’Connor is completing a graduate degree in law at the University of Oxford. She splits her time between Bogotá, Colombia; Niagara Falls, Canada; and Oxford, United Kingdom.
